Abstract

This study aims to examine the implementation of the Iqra’ method in improving the ability to read the Qur’an among students of TPQ Al-Anwar, Kalikalong Hamlet, Magelang. The main problems faced by TPQ include the low ability to read hijaiyyah letters, a lack of understanding of tajwid, limited teaching staff, and learning methods that are still less effective. To address these issues, the study employs the Participatory Action Research (PAR) approach, which emphasizes collaboration between researchers, teachers (ustadzah), and students in every stage of the activity. The research subjects consisted of 60 students, with data collected through observation, interviews, and documentation. Data analysis was carried out qualitatively through reduction, presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results show that the Iqra’ method has proven effective in gradually improving students’ Qur’an reading skills, from recognizing hijaiyyah letters to fluently reading verses in accordance with tajwid rules. In addition, students experienced improvements in motivation, discipline, and self-confidence in learning. This study confirms that the Iqra’ method is an effective learning strategy and can be sustainably applied in TPQ to shape a generation of religious and virtuous Muslims.
